The priest finished his sermon at Mass last Sunday by offering this quote below:

“God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. Therefore, I will trust Him, whatever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him, in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about. He may take away my friends. He may throw me among strangers. He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, hide my future from me. Still, He knows what He is about.”

I was completely electrified (in a good way)! For many years, I’ve believed in the concept that we are all here for a reason, a purpose. But there was something about the words ‘I am a link in a chain’ that made the hairs on my neck dance.

You already know I don’t ask you to ‘do’ resolutions in the normal sense. Social media has been overwhelming in ‘set your 2016 goals’ over the past couple of weeks. I felt exhausted and bored at their proliferation.

What Link are You?

I offer this beautiful quotation to you now,  as a different way to begin to create a joyful year you love living in 2016. May I invite you to give yourself quiet, private space for about 30 mins (or more if you wish), a notebook and pen, explore the questions below, and write your answers in your notebook. This is your special, sacred space and time; you may even wish to light a candle.

  • How do you want to feel about yourself, your life and the way you’ve lived in 2016, when you get to next December 31? [List all the feelings that come to mind; filter them down to about 5; you can always vcchange your mind]
  • How would you love to remember 2016? How would you love to be remembered?
  • What are your 3 or 4 major Intentions for 2016? [List all, filter down – again, you can always change your mind]
  • What link in the Chain of Life are you? How will you offer your gift to the world this year? How will your feelings and intentions support you in being an even stronger Link for yourself and your loved ones?

Looking at your answers to these questions, ask yourself ‘What has to happen to allow these feelings and intentions to be fully present and active in my life?’

And yes, I know things can go wrong, we can receive out-of-the-blue shocks, knocking us off course.   However, writing your answers and thoughts to these questions will give you a kind of personal spiritual GPS, to assist you to refocus on your best direction.

Let me leave you with this gorgeous quote, arrived in my Facebook post recently:

Tired of trying to cram her sparkly star-shaped self into society’s beige square holes, she chose to embrace her Ridiculous Awesomeness and shine like the freaking supernova she was meant to be’

So. Final questions: are you square, beige, or prepared to live your Ridiculous Awesomeness in your own personal Star Shape?

Go live your purposeful, feeling and intentional life. Have a fabulous 2016!
